Raclette is the pride of Switzerland and France. It is the name of the national dish, of a Swiss way of gourmet cooking and of this cheese! It is so characteristic because of its crust with a typical Swiss cheese smell.
A whole raclette weighs 5.5 kilos. We also sell very affordable quarter and half cheeses for the raclette grill.
Raclette cheese is creamy and full of flavor and has a remarkably spicy hint. It goes well with a large number of products and is therefore easy to combine with an evening meal. We obviously recommend melting this cheese. And let’s face it, everything tastes better with melted cheese!
Raclette comes from “racler”, the French word for “scrape”. When shepherds used to spend all summer in the Swiss mountains with their cattle, they had little to eat but homemade bread, meat and cheese. Because they sometimes felt like something warm, they roasted the cheese over a fire. They scraped off the melted cheese and ate it with the fresh bread. Today, the Swiss, and for that matter people elsewhere in the world, still enjoy this delicious processed cheese.
Raclette: a cozy way of eating
While we quickly put the gourmet set on the table during the holidays, the Swiss opt for raclette. With a raclette set or device you will experience a pleasant (winter) evening with friends or family. You can also melt the raclette cheese in a pan of your gourmet set.
During such an evening, potatoes, meat (products), onions and gherkins should not be missed. The melted cheese is also delicious on your hamburger, simply between a sandwich or as a gratin for an oven dish. While raclette is melted at its best, it can also be eaten cold. For example, serve a cube with a drink or eat the cheese as a sandwich filling.
