Green pesto cheese

Cheese has been made on Dutch cheese farms for many centuries, but green pesto cheese is a recent invention . To bring variety to the kitchen, cheese was already mixed with all kinds of delicious Dutch products that were available. Such as fresh cumin, nuts and mustard.

These are all delicious cheeses that are known all over the world to this day and have a huge fan base. The Dutch are also known for being very fond of travelling, and when the first Dutch discovered those wonderful products from Italy , it didn’t take long before they came up with the idea of mixing green pesto into the fresh cheese.

Other well-known Italian combinations are, for example, farmer’s truffle cheese and red pesto cheese . And the latter is certainly not inferior to its green brother.

Make your own pesto

You can also easily make your own pesto at home, we are happy to explain how. Take 40 grams of pine nuts and roast them without oil in a frying pan until golden brown.

Take 40 grams of basil leaves and 50 grams of Parmesan cheese . Toss all of the above ingredients together with 2 cloves of garlic in a food processor or mortar. Add some freshly ground pepper and salt to taste.

Once the mixture has been ground, add extra virgin olive oil until it has the right consistency. Delicious with, for example, fresh pasta or on freshly baked bread. You can easily store the pesto in the refrigerator in a sealed container.

Mix it with a few good spoons of pesto and sprinkle fresh Parmesan cheese over the pasta. You will have a delicious pesto on the table in no time, made from fresh ingredients.

Optionally, you can add some things that were left over from dinner yesterday or that are in the way in the fridge. That’s how the Italians have been eating pasta for years, simple but delicious!
