What is Taralli Tondi?
The origin is still uncertain, several Italian regions claim to have discovered this delicious cookie. But the most logical explanation is that it was invented in Southern Italy .
A legend says that during the Middle Ages, a poor woman from the countryside threw together the last ingredients she had in the cupboard. Flour, wine and olive oil. She made small circles of this dough, which she briefly boiled in water. Then she baked the pastries in the oven.
Nowadays they are mainly eaten with a good glass of wine . A well-known Italian saying is that everything ends with Taralli and wine.
Taralli is the Italian version of chips
This snack is eaten in Italy instead of chips. But it is also used as a substitute for bread during a meal. The cookies are surprisingly heavy and fill quickly.
It pairs very well with red wine, beer and cocktails such as aperol spritz.
Because these cookies are only made of flour, olive oil and wine, they are a responsible and healthy snack.
